Family photos for Christmas are always fun!

Family photos with young children are always difficult. They like to work on their own schedule. For our family photos we decided we would try to add in our puppies this year. It went pretty well. The kids are old enough to know their assignments and the puppies did pretty well themselves. We ended up doing snow pictures with mountain backdrop and I love how they turned out.

Peyton is turning 8!

My baby girl decided that she wanted to continue growing up. I remember her chunky little waddle when she was 2 and how she is tall, lanky and a beautiful 8. Where has the time gone? If there is one thing that I try to do to the best of my ability, it is enjoying and celebrating when you can because it goes too fast. We went to Skateland, upon her request, and truly had a lot of fun with all of her friends!

A'Niya wanted to get out and do a fall session. Once we settled on a location, I had some ideas of what I wanted to do. Getting her seated in the water turned out so well. It was a little more difficult than I had imagined, but we pulled it off!

Spring is here!

The past couple of months, I haven't had the chance to get my camera out as much as I would like to have. I have been traveling a lot but as the travel slows down, I have the chance to get outside and scout a little more. it is a beautiful Spring day here in Alaska and my models are the best I could ask for.

Close of my Senior season

It can be exhausting but it is my favorite!

The end of the fall season in Alaska is usually in September. The colors are usually bright and vibrant and the backdrops are to die for. This year we had a couple more weeks of color and I had senior session into late October. For my last session we had to go up into the mountains to find snow as I had twin brothers who loved skiing and wanted to capture their passion. As I am always up for an adventure, I obliged and we trucked up in the snow. I had a blast with them! I will say that I did take a breath of fresh air as I knew my schedule had been so hectic the last couple of months. My kids schedule somehow seems to busier in the winter and I have started classes back up hoping to finish my degree. I now have time to go to their soccer games and watch with delight as they play their hearts out with pure joy. With the winter season, the photography season slows a bit but I will take advantage of it to spend more time with my family.

Capturing my family as they grow

Getting family portraits done is a mega undertaking. To get everyone in the right mood and willing to participate is not always an easy task. One thing that I appreciate as a photographer is to be able to get quality photos of my family as we live our daily lives. My wife has her birthday this week and I wanted to gift her a collage wall photo, among other things, of our two youngest children. We snuck out of the house, my daughter even covered for us as mom saw us on the doorbell and asked where we were going, and got a little hike in for some pictures in our beautiful state. My favorite picture from the day is the two of them in the trees and that was their idea for a picture. Enjoy the days as they grow too fast.

Eagles are my Jam!

When I hear an eagle call, I perk up and get excited!

I am fascinated with the glory of Eagles. Their calls are glorious, their flight is effortless and their beauty is majestic. My favorite thing to capture with my camera is a soaring eagle. It is not an easy task! I by no means have perfected it. I always critique myself afterwards with the mistakes I made or adjustments I did not make. Nothing different with this weekend. My daughter is just as fascinated with them and being she has eyes as sharp as an eagle, she is notoriously the first to spot them. She also knows that I love to get them on camera. So this weekend, she was out playing and came to find me letting me know there was an eagle. I come outside to an American Bald Eagle in a fight with a Hawk and two other juvenile Bald Eagles. They were battling over the prime fishing spot. The older Bald Eagle lost the 3 on 1 fight and eventually retreated out of the area. It did not leave before I was able to capture some of the battles. They are not perfect pictures but they show the story.

Alaska is endless in its opportunities

I build my photography session schedule around family time. The family and I were able to get out into Resurrection Bay and enjoy the exciting landscape and wildlife. I love being able to get around what Alaska has to offer, we take where we live for granted at times. Enjoy the time in front of you, it goes by too fast to not be able to stop and appreciate it.

Watching Peyton work so hard this year has truly been impressive.

I had the pleasure of attending Peyton's kindergarten graduation this week. To have the ability to take the time away from everything else and show her how special she is, is a precious opportunity as a parent. She worked so hard and was so proud at her graduation. To be able to catch that confidence and splendor on camera is why I do what I do!

Not being able to capture the smiles

One of the things that I love about watching my kids participate in Art, gymnastics, swimming, just playing with their friends and their sports are the smiles that come with it. I have to get my camera out and capture them with their adorable uniforms while in their element. This year I am coaching Peyton's team so I cannot bring my camera out to capture the baseball season. I get to experience the smiles first hand but I won't have the photos to remember those moments in the future. I sure hope those memories stay with me forever!

Can't get enough of Alaska

While out Kayaking this weekend, the beauty surrounded me! As I traveled past gravel bars with the mountain backgrounds and beautiful blue river water I couldn't help bu t think of the amazing backdrops. I would be lying if didn't wonder the possibility of getting someone in a kayak with me to do a photo session! An adventure and pictures to go with it.
